Jason Bourne...Ultimate!

He rocks!

I was at the edge of my seat throughout the entire movie. Mostly due to the riveting scenes and the slick actions that Matt Damon delivers...partly also due to holding my bladder lah (haha...this has nothing to do with my fondness for the man)

I love the scene where he's in London tube station and helping a reporter to hide from the CIA agents. Ooo...he could even calculate the exact time each survellience camera turns! Cool...

Some people like the Matrix trilogy. Some people love Die Hard. Older people like James Bond, Indiana Jones or even Superman.

But there's only 1 man for me. Jason Bourne.
And yes, I have decided that No. 1's name will be Jason Ong.

500 words....

It's only a 500 word assignment, weighted at 10%.

Welcome to the first assignment of the 'Professional Communication' course, aka the 'English Intensive (Torture) Course'.

Marks will be deducted:
-for every wrong punctuation, tense and spelling.
-if you don't write clearly using simple words.
-if your sentence don't make sense and teacher asks 'so what'.
-if your sentences do not flow after one another.
-if you use redundant words.

After all these deductions, I wonder how much of the 10 marks I will get. So it is driving me nuts. I don't know how to survive the 50% assignment.

You will see my talk English, hear English, read English, dream English and breathe English for the next 2 months. I wasn't under so much pressure even during Mr Saunder's GP class in NJ!!

Over the last 48 hours, I have given up on digging into the differences of 'a' and 'an'; 'that' and 'which', 'shall and 'will'. God bless me in my latest topic: 'effect' and 'affect'. BTW, my assignment is to write a guide for students to help them understand some basic concepts in grammar.

I Used My Umbrella Today

It's been raining for the past 2 days. It didn't rain for the past 6 months.

Not the kind of downpour that we desperately need to fill the reservoirs, but is a refreshing change from the dry winter winds.

But it felt good to pull out my umbrella and get the bottom of my jeans wet.

Reminds me of home.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

Got these questions off the NDP website. Thought it'll be a good way to reflect about my homeland (ah...so patriotic...).

1. What makes you proud to be a Singaporean?

This little red dot can stand up against the other bigger lands. Not in terms of military power of coz, but our technology, workforce, living environment and multi-racial culture...and the fact that we have Singlish - a language that sets Singaporeans apart.

2. What is your most nostalgic memory growing up in Singapore?

Going for art classes at the CC, have lunch cooked by mum, before continuing with dance class at the same CC. And playing lanterns and candles at the playground below my block, with all my neighbourhood friends.

3. Where would qualify as Singapore's landmark?

Changi Airport! The rich and famous, politicians, tourists, businesmen, students and the returnees back for reunion - all need to pass through this landmark. Many of my ang mo frens tell me that they have a good impression of Singapore, simply by just transiting at Changi. Personally, I know I'm home when I reach Changi Airport - with the banners at the immigration check-points saying 'Welcome Home'.

4. Name a location where you think shows both Singapore's past and future and why?

Raffles Place/Boat Quay area. This is supposedly where Sir Stamford Raffles founded modern Singapore and is the heart of our CBD and financial hub. As Singapore moves forward, the skyscrapers will continue to climb and the CBD will continue to play an important role in our future.

5. What is most unique to you about Singapore?

National Day parades and the NDP songs! I grew up with "Stand Up for Singapore", "Count on Me Singapore" ......

6. When you are overseas, what do you miss about Singapore?

Stay out late and know that you are safe, Mediacorp soap operas...and the food! My chwee kueh, chee cheong fun, cha bee hoon, mee siam, mee rebus, chicken rice, duck rice, char siew rice, wan tan mee, indian rojak, prata, char kwey tiao, fishball noodles, yong tau foo, mee hoon kueh, geylang tao huay & you tiao, prawn mee, rojak, popiah....you can imagine how deprived I am.

7. What is your most Singapore trait?

I got Singaporean trait MEH? I don't think so LEH. HUH? What you say?
My Singish is already considered a trait LIAO? Ok LOR.

8. Which NDP 2007 song do you identify best with and why?

Definitely "There's no place I'd rather be". The first time I heard the song, I teared. It just speaks so much to me since I'm overseas now. (and maybe because it's Kit lah) There are many places that I want to visit, there are many things I love about the place that I'm in now, but there's no place like home, and that's where I'd rather be.

9. Which aspect of Singapore's history are you most proud of?

The fact that we stood up against all odds and became a well-known dot in 42 years. Making history as we progress.

10. How do you celebrate/spend National Day every year?

This is the second year I'm not in Singapore during National Day. I will always watch the live telecast and run the corridor to catch the fireworks when I'm home. I still miss watching the parade live, and singing the NDP songs at the end of the parade - "We are Singapore"!

Happy Birthday Singapore!

The Humble Noodles

I just had instant noodles for lunch.

Nothing fancy, an all-in-one 10 minute meal complete with some luncheon meat and vege.

But it's amazing how the simple taste brings back so much childhood memories. No other brand will do.

The taste is only achieved with Myojo noodles + ketchup + sesame oil.
